Government has decided to set up a separate state company to manage the technology parks with plans to list it on the Colombo Stock Exchange.
“It has been planned to set up a company called Technology Park Development Company with full share ownership by the Secretary to the Treasury to enable the proposed projects to be implemented as commercial enterp1ises” state media office said.
The proposal to establish the management company along with five technology parks in Galle, Kurunegala, Anuradhapura, Kandy and Batticaloa received the Cabinet approval this week.
In terms of a proposal earlier made through the 2021 budget the Ministry of Technology has already identified suitable locations for the technology parks taking into account the accessibility of the expressway network, tourist attractions and availability of required human resources.
The proposal was presented to the Cabinet by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa in his capacity as the Minister for Technology.
