Voyage Sri Lanka 2025 Highlights Nation’s Blue Economy Ambitions

Colombo, October 16 – Voyage Sri Lanka 2025, the international marine summit organized by the Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB), concluded at the Kingsbury Hotel, Colombo, positioning Sri Lanka as a rising hub for the blue economy in the Indian Ocean.



Held under the theme “Unveiling the Blue Economy Potential of Sri Lanka,” the second edition of the event attracted over 250 local and foreign delegates from six countries, including policymakers, investors, and industry leaders.



Opening the summit, EDB Chairman and CEO Mangala Wijesinghe said Sri Lanka’s strategic location and untapped maritime resources could drive national economic growth. The event was attended by several cabinet and deputy ministers, including Hon. Sunil Hadunneththi, Minister of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development, and Hon. (Prof.) Anil Jayantha, Minister of Labour and Deputy Minister of Economic Development.



Delivering the keynote address, Prof. Jayantha outlined government plans to boost marine industries through sustainable development policies and job creation.



The day’s proceedings featured three key panel discussions on Trincomalee as a Strategic Gateway, Offshore Oil and Gas Exploration, and Synergies between Boat Building and Nautical Tourism. Speakers from the Sri Lanka Ports Authority, Petroleum Development Authority, and private sector firms discussed investment opportunities in logistics, energy, and marine tourism.



Representatives from the Asian Development Bank, UNDP, Sri Lanka Navy, and academia also contributed insights on innovation, sustainability, and regional cooperation.



The summit concluded with B2B meetings and investor networking sessions that explored partnerships across shipping, offshore services, aquaculture, and renewable energy.



Supported by Seylan Bank, Lanka Marine Services, Lanka IOC, Hayleys Advantis, CMISL, and the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau, the event reaffirmed Sri Lanka’s commitment to expanding its maritime economy.
