Cabinet has decided to award the construction contract for a 10MW wind power plant in Mannar to Hiruras Power (Pvt) Ltd, a unit of publicly traded Windforce Ltd in Mannar, on a BOT basis for 20 years.
Windforce Ltd a company listed on the CSE has said Mannar farms will have a plant factor of 45 percent due to favorable wind patterns prevailing in the area. Unexpectedly steady winds have shown high plant factors in the already developed plants in the area.
Windforce will get a 20 year power purchase agreement from state-run Ceylon Electricity Board. This comes as a part of the Government’s plans to add 60 MW wind power capacity to five grid substations at Trincomalee, Mannar, Madampe, Bolawatta and Kappalthurai.
This and another 5MW plant is supposed to increase the installed capacity of WindForce’s wind energy portfolio to 84.2MW. WindForce is the country’s biggest producer of renewable energy
