The Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB) recently convened a high-level “National Export Roadmap – CEO Forum,” bringing together chief executives of leading institutions and policymakers to outline a strategic pathway for strengthening Sri Lanka’s export sector and achieving ambitious growth targets.

Addressing the forum, EDB Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Mangala Wijesinghe presented the objectives and framework of the National Export Development Plan, which aims to transform the country’s export sector and generate US$36 billion in export earnings by 2030. He described the initiative as a critical step in supporting Sri Lanka’s economic recovery and emphasised the need to integrate business leaders more actively into the national export drive to enhance global competitiveness.

The event served as a key platform for dialogue between policymakers and private sector leaders, focusing on strategic priorities and practical measures to strengthen the export ecosystem. Discussions highlighted the importance of adopting a “whole-of-government” approach, with participants stressing that coordinated action among government institutions and stronger public–private partnerships are essential for achieving sustainable export-led growth.

Among those attending the forum were Minister of Industries and Entrepreneurship Development Sunil Handunnetti, Minister of Energy Kumara Jayakody, Western Province Governor Hanif Yusoof, Deputy Minister of Industries and Entrepreneurship Development Chaturanga Abeysinghe, and Secretary to the Ministry of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development J. M. Thilaka Jayasundara. Also present were Director General of the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka Renuka Weerakoon and senior officials of the EDB, including Director General Erandika Dissanayake.

The forum underscored the need for stronger institutional partnerships and policy coordination to accelerate export expansion and support broader economic growth.
