EDB and Turkish Ambassador Discuss Boosting Bilateral Trade

The Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB) held discussions with His Excellency Semih Lütfü Turgut, Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye, on 12th June 2025 to strengthen trade ties and explore new opportunities between the two countries.



Ambassador Turgut, accompanied by Commercial Counsellor Mrs. Gamze Ercan, met with EDB Chairman and CEO Mr. Mangala Wijesinghe and senior officials to review existing trade relations and identify sectors for growth. Talks focused on Sri Lankan tea exports to Türkiye, investment potential, and collaboration in sectors such as apparel, gems and jewelry, agriculture, ICT, and logistics.



The parties also explored leveraging air cargo services via Turkish Cargo and SriLankan Airlines to enhance trade connectivity. The EDB reaffirmed its commitment to supporting exporters and expressed readiness to deepen engagement with Türkiye. Both sides agreed to share trade information and collaborate on future events, marking a step forward in bilateral economic cooperation.
