The Sri Lanka–France Business Council (SLFBC) of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce held its 21st Annual General Meeting on 8th July 2025, with French Ambassador to Sri Lanka, H.E. Rémi Lambert, attending as Chief Guest in his capacity as the Council’s patron.
Andre Fernando, Chairman of MAC Group, was re-elected as President of the SLFBC for the new term. Jonathan Suppiah of Inter Air Sea and Logistics (Pvt) Ltd and Shaameel Mohideen of Spillburg Holdings (Pvt) Ltd were appointed Senior Vice President and Vice President, respectively. The Council’s new Committee includes representatives from Puritas (Pvt) Ltd, Diesel & Motor Engineering PLC, Mack Air (Pvt) Ltd, Noyon Lanka (Pvt) Ltd, and CEVA Logistics.
In his remarks, President Andre Fernando identified tourism and investment as key priorities for strengthening bilateral relations. He revealed ongoing discussions to engage a prominent French sports personality to support tourism promotion in Sri Lanka, leveraging French media platforms. On the investment front, he noted efforts to attract France-based companies in India to consider expansion into Sri Lanka.
Ambassador Lambert, addressing the gathering, outlined his diplomatic priorities for France–Sri Lanka ties, centered on three pillars: economic collaboration, maritime logistics and aviation, and tourism. He also emphasized the ongoing support provided through the Regional Maritime Training Centre, which helps train Sri Lankan coastguard, customs, and other maritime officials, with a view to positioning Sri Lanka as a logistics hub in the Indian Ocean.
