IGT 1 Outsourcing Lanka (Pvt) Ltd, a subsidiary of Sweden-based IGT Holding I AB and a sister company of IFS Sri Lanka, has officially joined the Business Centre at Port City Colombo as a new office tenant. The agreement was formalized with the signing of a lease between Sal Laher, Chief Digital and Information Officer of IGT 1 and Managing Director of IGT 1 Lanka, and Xiong Hongfeng, Managing Director of CHEC Port City Colombo (Pvt) Ltd.

This strategic move reflects the growing interest of global tech investors—such as EQT, Hg, and TA Associates Private Equity—in leveraging Sri Lanka’s modern infrastructure and emerging digital ecosystem. These investment groups, which already have a strong presence in the country through IFS, continue to build on nearly three decades of success with over 3,000 tech professionals employed locally.

IGT 1 Lanka's presence at Port City Colombo underscores a shared commitment to transforming Sri Lanka into a leading regional technology hub. The company has pledged to create at least 1,000 direct employment opportunities within Port City Colombo by 2027, fostering innovation and building a robust local IT community.

As part of the agreement, IGT 1 Lanka will lease two office buildings in the Business Centre, with an initial headcount of approximately 500 employees. The Business Centre is positioned as a premier IT and business park designed to support modern tech enterprises and drive innovation in areas such as generative AI.

Recognized as an Authorised Person by the Colombo Port City Economic Commission, IGT 1 Lanka becomes one of several international IT firms setting up operations in the Special Economic Zone at Port City Colombo.

“This instrumental partnership with IGT 1 Lanka will enable Port City Colombo to emerge as a progressive business environment that is at the forefront of technological trends in the South Asian region,” said Xiong Hongfeng, Managing Director of CHEC Port City Colombo. “We are proud to collaborate on a venture that supports the growth of Sri Lanka’s digital economy.”

Sal Laher of IGT 1 echoed this sentiment: “Since registering as a Port City company, we’ve achieved several milestones—including recruiting 370 staff within just nine months. Today’s office expansion marks another important step in our journey and reaffirms our commitment to Sri Lanka’s growth and our long-term strategic ambitions.”

Port City Colombo, developed as a Public-Private Partnership, continues to promote foreign investment through streamlined processes and a business-friendly regulatory environment, supported by close cooperation between public institutions and private stakeholders.
