Progress was reviewed on the ongoing project to fix Roof top solar panels on Govt buildings & religious institutes with the assistance of a USD 100 million credit line from the Indian Gov, says Power and Energy Minister Ksnchana Wijesekera.
90% of the surveys have been completed on identified national schools, universities, technical colleges, teaching schools, armed forces buildings, police stations, religious institutes of all religions that have no income & other government buildings.
The survey is to be completed by 15th April. The tender & the procurement process is conducted by the Indian Exim Bank.
The project is aimed at sorting out huge electricity bill issues faced by these institutions while also promoting the concept of solar energy throughout the island.
