Government has decided to construct a 100MW solar power plant at Siyambalanduwa with private sector investment and to initiate the procurement procedure by calling for bids through the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB)

The Cabinet of Ministers on Monday approved the proposal tabled by the Minister of Power enabling the initiation of procurement procedure and for the CEB to construct the power line from Medagama to Ampara under the project.

The necessary preliminary steps such as studying the feasibilities, securing the lands and environmental evaluations have been already taken to implement the solar power project.

The assistance of the Asian Development Bank has been received to conduct an analysis on the procedure that should be followed to develop the power plant and the financing required.

It has been proved by the analysis that the proposed project with transmission infrastructure should be implemented as a single procurement of 100 MW single power plant and transmission facilities in order to obtain a minimum power consume charge for the generation and transmission of a unit of electricity according to the various capacity opportunities that could be implemented.
