A high-level delegation from the Department of Industry and Information Technology of Guangdong Province, China, held discussions with the Chairman and senior management of the Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB) at the EDB headquarters recently.
EDB Chairman Mangala Wijesinghe welcomed the delegation and provided a comprehensive briefing on Sri Lanka's current economic situation, export development targets and direction, and the investment-friendly environment created through political stability. He also requested the delegation to invite Chinese investors to invest in Sri Lanka.
The Sri Lankan side requested greater opportunities for Sri Lankan entrepreneurs to participate in the China International SME Fair, the largest international exhibition for small and medium-scale enterprises in the Asian region, held in Guangdong Province.
Mr. W.A.P. Kapila Nishantha, Director General of the Industrial Development Board, explained the need for industrial development in Sri Lanka and the importance of entering international markets.
Ms. Idumini Kodikara, Director of Export Services at the EDB, briefed the delegation on the proposed Sri Lanka Expo 2026 and expressed hope for Chinese government support to make it a success.
Mr. Zhuang Lecong, Deputy Director General of the Department of Industry and Information Technology of Guangdong Province, who addressed the occasion, promised to provide greater opportunities for Sri Lankan exporters at the International China SME Fair to be held next year and to send a trade delegation to participate in the international trade exhibition in Sri Lanka.
The Chinese delegation included Mr. Zhuang Lecong, Deputy Director General, Department of Industry and Information Technology - Guangdong Province; Ms. Wang Fuxiu, Deputy Director, China International SME Fair Bureau; Mr. Wu Dongxlong, Deputy Director, Department of Industry and Information Technology - Guangdong Province; Mr. Lin Sichen, Section Chief, China International SME Fair Bureau; and Ms. He Yan, Section Chief, China International SME Fair Bureau.
From the Sri Lankan side, the meeting was attended by Mangala Wijesinghe, Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Sri Lanka Export Development Board; Erandika Dissanayake, Acting Director General; D.M.P. Dissanayake, Acting Director of Regional Development Division; and other senior officials of the EDB, along with the Mr. W.A.P. Kapila Nishantha - Director General, IDB and officials representing the Industrial Development Board of Sri Lanka.
