Substantial reduction in electricity tariffs in new CEB proposals to PUCSL

Substantial reductions in electricity tariffs have been suggested in new proposals to be submitted by Ceylon Electricity Board to the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) tomorrow.



CEB expects to reduce the rates by at least the same rates & percentages it was increased in October 2023, Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera revealed on social media platform X (twitter).



In 2023 October the tariffs were increased in the for the Domestic and Religious sectors by 18%, Industries & Hotel sectors by 12% & General Purpose & Government Buildings sectors by 24%.



He said that a discussion on the revised proposal to reduce electricity tariffs was held this morning at the Ministry of Power & Energy.



CEB management & tariff department officials briefed on the revised new tariff proposal, cost reduced from capital and operating expenses from the original proposal, cash flow requirements for 2024 and suggestions received and considered from public consultation and stakeholder meetings.
