A meeting between Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera and other stake holders including officials and trade union leaders was held yesterday to discuss progress on the restructuring of the CEB.

The Minister in a twitter message said that ADB, World Bank, USAID & JICA has already communicated on the assistance they can offer for the restructuring process.

Meanwhile the trade union leaders also said that though they are against privatization of the CEB they would not oppose restructuring it to make it a viable entity.

They said that the minister for the first time showed some flexibility on the issue and promised that the union leaders would be accommodated in all future discussions.

The minister in his Twitter said that the roadmap & timeline will be submitted to the Cabinet and the reforms that can be implemented before the final Act, will be initiated next week.

Minister Wijesekera earlier told the parliament that a bill to restructure the CEB would be presented in a month and called for the support of the opposition for its passage through the parliament.
