The Colombo Bourse closed on a negative note today, with the ASPI declining by 40 points to close at 21,082, while the S&P SL20 declined by 3 points to close at 5,937.
Mixed investor sentiment prevailed during the session, despite healthy market turnover supported by crossing transactions. HNW participation remained high, while retail participation remained average.
Negative contributors to the ASPI were CTHR, CINS, HHL, SAMP, HNB. Daily turnover stood at LKR 3.0Bn, marking an increase of 56.6% over the monthly average of LKR 1.9Bn.
Retailing sector led the daily turnover with a share of 37%, followed by the Capital Goods, and Banking sectors collectively contributing 44%. Foreign investors remained net sellers, posting a net outflow of LKR 1,029.9Mn.

Limited activity weighs on the secondary market
The secondary market was characterized by a dull trading session with limited activity today. Among the trades that were executed, 01.08.2030 and 15.10.2030 maturities traded between 11.42%-11.50%.
Moving ahead, 01.02.2031 and 15.10.2034 traded at 11.60% and 12.30% respectively. Finally, over the longer end, 01.07.2037 changed hands at 12.80%. According to the data published by CBSL, the external sector continued to reflect the repercussions of the geopolitical landscape.
The current account registered a deficit of USD 149Mn in June 2026, marking the third consecutive monthly deficit. On the external front, the LKR appreciated against the USD, standing at LKR 335.72/USD, compared to LKR 335.78/USD seen earlier. Overnight liquidity in the banking system expanded to LKR 204.74Bn from LKR 179.31Bn recorded previously.
