DCSL acquires Heineken Lanka Limited

Distilleries Company of Sri Lanka PLC (DCSL) has acquired 99.4% of the issued capital of HEINEKEN Lanka Limited from HEINEKEN Asia Pacific Pte.Ltd (HEINEKEN) for a total consideration of Euro 12 million.



With this acquisition, HEINEKEN Lanka Limited will change its name to DCSL Breweries Lanka Limited to reflect the new ownership.



The company in a stock filing said it will continue brewing beer under world-renowned international brands such as Heineken, Tiger and Anchor under a Trademark Licence Agreement signed with the HEINEKEN Company. The company will also continue to brew its own brand, Bison beer.



This acquisition and the continued production of world-renowned Heineken brands under license will ensure that consumers can continue to enjoy these brands, The DCSL Group, a pioneer in the liquor industry in Sri Lanka with well over a century of producing quality products, will now add beer to its diverse product portfolio, the announcement signed by DCSL’s Chairman Harry Jayawardena said.



DCSL PLC's knowledge and expertise in production and distribution of liquor in the Sri Lankan market will be successfully combined with brewing and marketing expertise of HEINEKEN to deliver quality beer brands, with more choice to consumers in Sri Lanka.



With this acquisition DCSL which has been the leading distiller of arrack in Sri Lanka will expand its range in the beer market as well.
